Niven is a writer, actor and theatre practitioner. He has been involved with Contact Theatre for over eight years, in both amateur and professional productions. Niven is a creative director and performer for Shot in the Dark Theatre Company and took part in the recent successful run of the devised theatre piece Lost/Found. He also performed recently in Six Ways Out of the Desert, a devised piece of promenade theatre directed by John McGrath, artistic director of Contact Theatre. Niven appears in the short film Grandfather Clock and is a member of Pen-Ultimate, a writing and performance poetry ensemble. Niven says he ‘[loves] being involved in theatre in any capacity, whether it’s writing, acting, performance poetry, devising, directing, stage management or simply sweeping the stage. I have to create art or be part of its creation’.
