LYDIA TOWSEY

Leicester, 28

Lydia is a poet and performer. Her work often explores issues rooted in feminism and the female experience, combining elements of myth, autobiography and gender politics. In 2007 Lydia was commissioned to write and perform for the Freedom Showcase, an event marking the 200th anniversary of the abolition of Britains’ transatlantic slave trade. She also featured in the short film Hindmost which was screened at the Leicester CAN film festival and is soon to tour. This year, Lydia was selected to take part in the cross art form project In their own words, she has performed at the big session music festival and will be performing at Summer Sundae. She is a featured poet in Coffee House Magazine and Goblin Fruit and her writing has appeared in such publications as Tripod Magazine and Great Works as well as being anthologized in Behind the Scenes, produced by Leicester Libraries. Lydia is a performer and coordinator for The Brighter Side Poetry Project and Leicester’s principle spoken word night, WORD!. She is currently completing her first solo collection and developing work for a new, UK wide touring showcase with two other artists.
