aka Chimpo, Manchester, 23

John, aka Chimpo, has been a music producer, DJ, and MC for over ten years. He has performed around the UK and in France and Switzerland. Chimpo has worked extensively for the Manchester hip hop outfit Brok’n’English, producing their most popular track Trying, which has had heavy rotation on commercial radio and was A-listed on the 1xtra playlist. Over the last year, Chimpo has been working on solo material and, through Mrk 1’s Contagious label, he has released several dubstep tracks which are now being played worldwide by leading DJs such as Skream, Hatcha and N Type. The success of this work resulted in an invitation for Chimpo to tour the USA with Producer/DJ Mrk 1 this April. Over the last year, Chimpo has performed at Contact Theatre, facilitated workshops on a NEET outreach project, worked with young offenders in Hindley prison and is an organiser for the monthly event I Luv Live, which helps promote up-and-coming artists.
